CASCADE COMMUNITY CHURCH HOLDS 2ND ANNUAL PICNIC

SUNDAY, July 8th turned out to be a beautiful day for Cascade Community Churche's second annual Fourth of July Picnic. The picnic had been previously cancelled due to cold and rainy weather on the fourth of July.

Despite the cancelation, 65 adults and 9 children attended the open air Sunday service before the picnic festivities began. Reverend C. Shawn Farrell told the congregation that there is no strangers at the Cascade Community Church and that the congregation remained a family of love.

While Reverend Farrell attended to the grill, Fourteen gay men and women displayed their olympic volley ball talents. The children were kept busy with frisbies and junior baseball,

The Cascade Community Church extends its thanks to Don and Jamie of the Hayloft for letting the picnic be held at their suburban Akron estate.

LABOR DAY 1979: FIND IT ALL IN THE AKRON AREA by Chris Parker

With dollar-a-gallon gasoline prices here to stay, summer holidays have become a stay-home celebration for Americans. The gay community of the Akron-Canton area, however, need not die of boredom this year. The Stagecoach Inn and Club Akron will be teaming up to bring you a Labor Day Fun Festival which will bring a smile to your face, a song to your heart, and various assorted reactions to the rest of your body.

The "Big" event of the weekend will be the first annual edition of the Mr. Club Akron and The Mr. Stagecoach Inn contests, which are scheduled for Labor Day evening. It will be the perfect opportunity for hunky numbers from all over the area to show off those bodies and tans that have been worked on so hard this summer. The lucky winners will be $150 richer and the two runners-up will each get $75.00.

There will be several interesting "competitions," to be judged by representatives from the Hayloft, the American Disco, Satan's Den, the Akron Inn Men, and yours truly, the Akron-Canton GOLD. So if you want to show off or just get an eyeful, make plans to be at the now air-conditioned Stagecoach Inn Labor Day. The holiday weekend will also be bringing you some interesting specials and events from both Club Akron and the Stagecoach Inn. Plans are still being finalized, so watch for the announcements coming soon. Why waste time and money on this Labor Day weekend, you really will "find it ALL in the Akron

area.

NO MORE VICE IN SAN FRAN

SAN FRANCISCO: Supervisor Harry Britt thinks cops have better things to do than snoop into the private sex lives of consenting adults. So Britt has called for the elimination of the San Francisco Police Department's vice squad, arguing that the taxpayers' money is better spent preventing crimes that have victims. Too bad Ohio and its cities doesn't do the same.

MATURING by Clay Hunter

I'm a little more tired at the end of the day.

I'm a little less anxious to have my own way.

I'm a little less ready to argue and blame.

I have a little more care of my brother's name.

And so when I'm nearing my journey's end,

that's where all heartaches will meet and blend.

I'm a little more anxious for someone to say,

"Gee, I feel better because he passed my way":"
