KGLF Plans All-Out Battle
by Dave Goodenough
Kent State University Gay Liberation Front, with the help of a newly passed student Senate resolution and widespread support from the campus community, plans an all-out effort to end discrimination against Gays in the Kent area. The student Senate resolution, which was passed unanimously, atates that Kent Student Governmen backs KGFL in their efforts to and discrimination because of sexual preference. Several areas of the campus community are practicing open discrimination against Gays. They will find out that Gay Liberation is alive, wall and functioning.
Ms. Zak, head of women's health and physical education departmant, recently told Bill Hoover, KGLF president, that she will not change her policy ot refusing to give recommendations to any woman she suspects of being Gay. Without Ms. Zak's recommendation, a woman would find it nearly impossible to get a job teaching. To combat Ms. Zak's open discrimination, KCLF is going to have a "Zap Zak" day Thursday, May 18. Picket lines will be set up and a demonstration will be led by Dr. Franklin Kameny, nationally known Gay activist speaker and the tirst Gay candidate tor a national office.
KGLF made its power telt May 5 when it was victorious in its fight to get one of our Gay sisters reinstated to her job in a Kent city restaurant. She had been fired when it was found out she was Gay. KCLF took immediate action by passing leaflets out on campus to gain support for a planned demonstration at the restaurant the next day. Within two hours of passing these leaflets out, Nancy had her Job back.
For tuture zaps, plans are being considered for action against RCTC, which will not admit known Gay people; campus job interviewers who refuse to hire Cays; and the Ohio educational system, which will not hire known Gay teachers. Anyone knowing of any examples of discrimination against Gays in the Kent-Akron-Canton area, please contact Kent GLF at 673-1919.
