Board Meeting Minutes March 16, 1980
The Board met March 16 at the home of Howard Getz. Present were: Frances Dostal, Karl Erbland, Howard Getz, Art Kaltenborn, Barbara Keenan, Rick Lange, Roger Walton and Jay Webster. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. amended and approved.
Art Kaltenborn presented the treasurer's report. Since the previous meeting we had income of $198.16 and disbursements of $389.64 (including $300.00 in savings and $73.53 set aside foe the State Fair Booth).
☐☐ The proposal to have officers in the Board was discussed. Officers will take responsibility to perform jobs, many which were done previously by Marilyn Buffton and Diane Delahunty. The proposal will be presented to the membership by mail for consideration, review and for a decision at the next General Meeting
Male and Female vacancies on the Board were discussed. ☐☐ Jay Webster presented information on the State Fair Booth. A motion was passed that the Chair of the State Fair Booth need not be a member of the Board. Another motion made funds available from savings for the balance of booth space rental.
Karl Erbland presented information about our membership campaign. The need was expressed for Third World, Physically Challenged, new organizations and new individual memberships.
We will have a half-page advertisement in GEAR accompaning an article on the successful workshop held in Dayton on March 15. Money has been allocated for ads in local Gay papers all over Ohio. Visa and Master Charge will be accepted for our initial membership drive.
Forty-two people attended the Dayton workshop on communication. Nine of those attending joined as new members to OGRC. For those who registered and were not able to attend a package of materials will be mailed.

OGRC pioneered the Gay Rights Movement outreach to the millions attending the Ohio State Fair when it opened the first Gay booth in the history of the Fair in 1978. In 1979 OGRC followed up with a bigger and better presentation.
The 1980 OGRC State Fair Booth will be the best yet, but only if YOU help. There are two main ways your help is needed Time and Money
The most important need to get the 1980 booth going is Money. This year's booth will cost over $800, just for exhibition space. Printing costs for materials distributed free at the booth will be extra. Building materials and equipment rental will likely bring the total bill to around $1100.00.
The urgent aspect is that over half of the projected cost must be paid to the Fair Board by May 15.
You may not think that a dollar is much of a help when over $1100 is needed, but it IS a help, and five dollars is five times as much help. Please take time RIGHT NOW to send what you can. $1, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50, $100-whatever you can TODAY. Keep the booth in mind next payday and send more then if you can. Without you it may be impossible to continue the booth.
The other major need is your TIME. You are essential to the outcome of the Booth! There is little expertise needed to staff the booth. If you read this newsletter you are probably well enough informed to answer the kinds of questions people ask booth staffers. This year the Fair begins August 12th and goes through the 24th. Housing adjacent to the fairgrounds will be made available to out-of-towners coming in to staff the booth. Let us know as soon as you are able to commit yourself to any particular day and times.
The General Meeting convened at 2:00 PM also at Howard's home. A review of the previous meetings minutes was accepted. ☐☐ Howard gave an over-view of the workshop. Participants described the workshop as informative, worthwhile and well presented. The only major complaint was the need for more time for each topic. A motion passed to send letters of appreciation to those who lead the workshop.
☐☐ Workshops, such as the one in Dayton are giving members of OGRC something of substance to be involved in. The concept of three major General Meetings, rather than more frequent smaller meetings, gathered favorable response. Ideas discussed for future weekend meetings included a workshop on the Educational Pamphlet, a legislative workshop or further development of any of the topics presented at the Dayton Communications Workshop.
The next major weekend for OGRC is to be a social activity on June 21. Karl Erbland was appointed to check out picnic facilities in the northern end of Ohio.
Nominations for the Chair of the State Fair Booth. committee were accepted. Hermann of Columbus was appointed.
1980 will be our third year of education and visability at the Ohio State Fair. For more impact we are hoping to have a double booth space this year. No forma: dress code will be in effect, however decency in dress is encouraged.
The meeting ended with discussion of opposition to the movies Windows and Cruising. Efforts from various parts of Ohio were discussed.
