This is the first edition of a gay women's newsletter from Columbus (Cowtown), Ohio. Hence the title, "Purple Cow. The newsletter is funded by Gay Women Sapphoncified (GWS) and this first issue is being put out by the Gay Women's Peer Counseling Group (CG). The purpose of the newsletter is to let you know what is happening here in Heartlend-America and hopefully to help foster greater exchanges of information between groups around Ohio and in the Midwest. Many activities are going on in this area and almost all could use the support of other women, either through information, business, or attendance.

We would like to accomplish three things for the next issue to be sent in October-November. First, to compile a list of people who would like to receive the newsletter. This listing would be available to groups planning a function to supplement existing information. Secondly, we hope to publish a Gay Women's Classified section in the next issue which would contain a brief description of services, activities, and functions occurring in the area. Third, we hope to include articles from individuals/groups around the state and midwest can continue getting to know one another better and keep in touch. So who are you and what are you doing? You will find a space at the end of this newsletter to indicate whether or not you would like to contribute something for the second issue and where to send the information.

This newsletter is being sent to individuals and groups we know about all over the Midwest. Invariably, addresses change and new groups form. If you know of an individual or a group of women we might have missed in the first mailing, please indicate that in the space at the end. We will mail a copy of the first issue the next day.

We hope through the newsletter to increase our support of oneanother on an ongoing basis as well as during "isolated events like conferences and dances. We hope you will help make this venture a Smashing success.
