CALENDAR OF SUMMER EVENTS
WEATHER PERMITTING
On Sunday, July 21st, pack plenty of food and refreshment and your softball mitt. There is going to be a picnic at Tuttle Field. Softball games occur regularly but this is a sure bet for a good time. There is also a basketball court if you prefer larger...equipment. There are also swings for the tots, big and small. Tuttle Field is 10cated behind Big Bear off Lane Ave. (near OSU). Cross your fingers and pray to Sappho for sunshine. If
the rain continues, we will gather together and build an arc, so, along with the food bring two female species of every kind.
HEAD FOR THE EILLS
Last year on a sunny day 12 dykes headed for the strip-pits in Southern Ohio for a weekend of camping. Many folks laughed at the prospect of this location and missed a great time. Those of you who went and those who later saw Jean's photos can remember the midnight adventure of a rather late arrival lead by our trustworthy scout Susie Simpson. We all gathered at Wesley and as usual left two hours late. A pit-stop was made in a small town at the local ice cream stand which served as the family outing place in the evenings and then became the hotspot for adolescents looking for some action. Well, they found it. Three cars full of amazons pulled in with an assortment of knives hanging from their belts and cutoffs displaying a variety of hairy legati he must have looked like the invasion caravan. One woman asked if she could change her pants in the lot which brought roars of laughter and numerous BEEPS. In ten minutes the place looked like a deserted roadside ornament. When we finally arrived at our destination, it was midnight and we found ourselves driving up this "road", weaving inbetween the trenches. Packing our
gear on foot, we walked by flashlight up the rest of the road and in a place that seemed large enough to acccomodate five tents, we began to dig in for the night. Not many folks went far to pee that night as you never knew when you would fall flat or off the face of the earth. In the morning, parties went out to find wood and see what we had gotten ourselves into. Lo and behold; a lake and from then on it was nothing but good times. Highlights included a community stew, near death, and skinny-dipping.
Having learned from our first wilderness retreat, another camping trip has been planned tentatively for August 16th thru the 18th. We are checking out a number of places which might be even more private. If you would be interested in joining in on the fun, write us or call 614-866-5274. The address is at the back of the newsletter. In the beginning of August, a meeting will be held to divide the labors and fir up the date and location. If you write and/or are from out of town, please indicate what equipment you could bring. Information will be sent out to those who could not attend the meeting in early August.
WHEN YOU'RE HOT, YOU"RE HOT On hay
17th,
1974, GWS and Columbus-OSU Homen's Liberation put on a dance here that was out-of-sight. Mother's Pride, a women's rock band, and Eyla Stats, a folk singer, provided the live entertainment for 100+ women we attended. Not only was thee music to dance by, but several women from the community displayed their art work. A rather noticeable nude painting graced the entrance corridor, much to the shock of the church study/fellowship group which also had a meeting in the church that night. Rain and short notice brought the attendance down some from the last dance but in terms of spirit and fun, things are looking up.
