INSURANCE FOR GAY WOMEN
I hear from the editors of "The Purple Cow" that discrimination exists against gay women who name each other as beneficiaries in insurance policies. As a woman insurance agent, I do not feel this is fair, and on checking with my company. I find that no discrimination is made on the basis of sexual perference. However, as with all insurance companies, there are certain qualifications such as general ability to maintain a policy which do apply.
If any of you "Purple Cow" readers would like to rap with a woman agent about insurance, call Mary Lou Young at 261-7168. Our company specializes in insured saving plans such as retirement, income protection insurance and annuities. Even if you do not have an immediate need, I would be glad to talk with you and perhaps we can together come to an understanding of the insurance needs of liberated gay women.

The next problem discussed is that of "psychological imprisonment" which means being reluctant and fearful to tell others, family, and

friends that you are gay, thus keeping the knowledge bottled up inside. The authors then present statistical information about the number of gays in the Akron area (shock). They found gays in every section of the city and in every occupation, not just hairdressing and interior decorating. The next section of the article focuses on the political and social climate for college gays. The information in this section came mainly from people in Kent Gay Liberation Front at Kent State University. Members of the gay community, including students and faculty discuss coming out in a clooege setting. A very positive feeling of warmth and support is conveyed in this section.
